Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page lead the 470 fleet heading into the medal race
Ross Wylde-Browne, Wednesday, 8 August 2012

Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page will go head-to-head with Great Britain’s Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell tomorrow night in a battle for the 470 men’s gold medal. The Australian team lead by four points following two wins on Tuesday and need to finish within one place of the British team in the double points Medal Race to secure Gold.

Meanwhile, in the Medal Race for the Men's 49er class, the Australian and New Zealand teams simply have to sail the course to secure their respective Gold and Silver medals while the rest of the Medal fleet battle it out for the Bronze. So don't expect exciting sailing from the leaders unless the New Zealanders decide to try to put the Australian boat out in order to secure Gold themselves. Probably unlikely as they are training partners and good friends.
