Outteridge and Jensen continue to lead the 49ers at London 2012
Ross Wylde-Browne, Thursday, 9 August 2012

Most of Wangi was at the Wangi RSL Club last night to watch Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen sail the Medal Race to claim their Gold Medal in the Olympic Men's 49er class. Even though they didn't need to, both they and the New Zealanders participated in the race, albeit cautiously, however the very light wind conditions made it a tricky race, but that didn't detract from the celebrations when they finally crossed the line to relieve the suspense for everybody.
The main interest in the race was the battle for the Bronze Medal which the Australians and New Zealanders inadvertently got caught in. When both the New Zealanders and the Australians overtook Great Britain they put sufficient places between Denmark and the other boats to give the Bronze to the Danes.

In the Women's Match racing the Australian team of Olivia Price, Nina Curtis and Lucinda Whitty are back on the pace and are through to the semi-final giving them a very good chance for a medal.
